Welcome!
This year in Grade 8 we will be trying many new things. One will be blogging. We will use our blogs in two important ways. Blogs give us a place to write in order to sort out or discover what we think or believe about a topic. E.M. Forster once said, "How will I know what I think, until I see what I say?" They are also the place, in conjunction with our e-portfolio, where we can reflect on ourselves as learners, articulate and provide evidence of our growth, and consider how we function within a community of learners, namely our classroom.

Multiple Intelligence, the Birmingham Grid of Learning, and Me
August 22 - The first full week of school we took the Birmingham Grid of Learning Multiple Intelligence test. This test is designed to show us our strengths and challenges as learners. On the left you can see my results. Overall I agree with the test results. I have always considered myself a very visual learner, so I was surprised to see the discrepancy between interpreting text and images. Words are much easier for me to interpret, remember, and recall than images. I am a very empathetic person and can work well in both groups and independently. This is shown on the graph as well. When I looked at the music score, I had to laugh. I am the least musically inclined person in the world, and find it difficult to write jingles and songs to remember information. The highest score was "nature smart." This is interesting because I do choose to study where I can see outside or hear gurgling water.
What does this mean for me as a learner? Reviewing notes, making my own version of a test, studying both independently and with a study group will all benefit me. If I can make reasonable connections between cause and effect it will enable me to recall the information easier. Setting information to music and creating image cues may not help me remember the information I need.
